Shipping Cremains for Memorial Jewelry

While many of you know I create keepsakes and memorial jewelry with hair and fur, I can also use cremated remains when desired. While the overall process is the same, special care is needed when shipping your cremains- both to me to create your jewelry, as well as to ship your finished jewelry and any cremains back to you.

While special postage and packaging is required, its actually quite simple- I'll walk you through the necessary steps to send your cremated remains safely and securely. 

Things to know:

Most importantly- cremated remains (aka ashes or cremains) MUST be shipped via USPS. USPS is the ONLY carrier legally allowed to transport cremated remains in the US. When shipping, it is required to use Priority Mail Express postage and the appropriate "Cremated Remains" packaging (provided by USPS). 

Step 1: Collect the appropriate shipping container from your local USPS (you may need to place an order through their website as not all branches carry these boxes.)

Step 2: Package the cremains. Memorial jewelry pieces only require 1 teaspoon approximate. Use a spill proof, sift proof container to secure the cremated remains. A small sealed bag within a larger box or firm package is recommended. Place remains in Cremains packaging, and use a filler (crushed paper or similar) to secure the contents within the larger package and ensure nothing is damaged. It is highly recommended to include shipping information within the box as a safeguard should anything happen to the exterior label.  

Step 3: Shipping. Cremated remains MUST be sent via USPS Priority Mail Express. This is the only legal way to transport cremated remains in the US. If your cremated remains box included additional stickers, please place these on the outer package as indicated.
